Joined the Mainichi Shimbun in 1974. Served as a reporter in the city affairs department at the Osaka headquarters, a reporter in the political department, editorial writer, etc. Retired in March 2007 as deputy editorial director. Served as an advisor to Wakayama Broadcasting System and a media consultant to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
