Mission Statement

The Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre is a community-based, not-for-profit, charitable organization that provides programs, events and facilities to promote an understanding and appreciation of Japanese culture and Japanese Canadian heritage for Canadians of all heritages.

The Japanese-Canadian community spans five generations and is a community rich in knowledge, history, contribution and achievement. As Canada's first Japanese-Canadian centre, the JCCC provides a place for the diverse community to make new friends and share common interests. It is also a place of learning where visitors may be inspired to learn about the many facets of the unique culture and heritage of the Japanese. It proudly shares with its members and the public, the history of the Japanese pioneers who, through their sacrifices and achievements, helped shape Canadian society. The JCCC represents the fulfillment of a long-held vision to celebrate the spirit of Japanese heritage and culture. Since 1964, we have been promoting harmony, friendship, and understanding in Canada's diverse society. The Centre is recognized across Canada as an important vibrant community institution.

About

The participation of the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC) in the Discover Nikkei website includes the contribution to the Real People video archive, of oral history interview footage from Sedai -Japanese Canadian Legacy Project of the JCCC . The JCCC has also contributed historic family film footage to the Nikkei Resources section. We hope that making these resources available through Discover Nikkei will help illustrate the rich history and diverse nature of the Japanese Canadian community and its experiences.

The JCCC also participates in the Community Forum, posting relevant Nikkei articles and notices of Nikkei events in Canada. This enables us to present the current scope and range of the Japanese Canadian community.
