Living conditions
Slept on the ground when in Pup tents, on beds when in barracks. Bathed in Irrigation ditches when necessary. Meals were Monotonous many times, but the cooks did a damn good job for what they had to work with. Entertainment: Mostly made our own (e.g. cards, socializing, etc.)
Missed most whilst in the military
Personal freedom.
Most important thing, personally, to come from military experience?
Discipline - That GIs in the 442 and MIS made it possible for us to live as we do today.
Additional information
The biggest personal battles came after I received my Ph. D. degree, mainly to secure an academic position and to be finally accepted by my professional peers.
