Delve into the human side of historical events, as Australian author Christine Piper discusses her award-winning novel After Darkness (暗闇の後で) with translator Masashi Hojo. https://www.amazon.com/After-Darkness/dp/1760113115
Piper will share insights gained through research into civilian internment camps, pearl shell divers in Australia and the Japanese Army’s Unit 731. Hojo will talk about the translation process and his father’s experience as a pearl shell diver in Broome and his internment in the 1940s.
The talk will be followed by a Q&A. Interpretation will be provided by Yuriko Yamanouchi. Co-hosted by the Australian Studies Association of Japan.
